Menus and keyboard shortcuts

Every TimeBill menu command (exporting, importing, opening the Dashboard, Invoice Vault, and Customer Management), plus all keyboard shortcuts.

TimeBill adds its commands to three menus in the macOS menu bar: File, View, and Help. Here is everything they contain.

File menu: export and import

  • Export → CSV for Bill → Export All Projects / Export Selected Project creates a CSV of your unbilled work (unbilled tasks with tracked time, plus cost items). Billed, paid, and zero-time tasks are skipped by design.
  • Export → Project Export → Export All Projects / Export Selected Project: a versioned JSON file with projects, tasks, time entries, and cost items. This is the format for backups and moving to another Mac; note that customers and the Invoice Vault are not included. See exporting your data.
  • Export → Export Timesheet (PDF) is only available while a project is selected in the sidebar. Details in exporting a timesheet PDF.
  • Import Project... reads a Project Export JSON back in. Projects that already exist are skipped and reported by name; imports never merge or overwrite.

One trap to avoid: double-clicking an exported .json or CSV file in Finder opens TimeBill but imports nothing — always import via File → Import Project.... The only file type that imports on double-click is a .timebilltemplate invoice template.

View menu

  • Show Dashboard (Shift-Cmd-D): statistics in the detail pane.
  • Invoice Vault (Shift-Cmd-I): the archive of all exported invoices.
  • Customer Management (Shift-Cmd-M): your client address book.
  • Upgrade to Premium... (Shift-Cmd-U) opens the purchase sheet. This item exists in the Mac App Store build only; the Setapp edition is fully unlocked and has no purchase UI.

The standard macOS commands for hiding and showing the sidebar are also here.

Help menu

  • Contact Support and Report a Bug open a pre-addressed email that already includes your app version, build number, and macOS version; the bug report adds a steps-to-reproduce template. Prefer the browser? Use the contact form.
  • TimeBill Website and Privacy Policy open the corresponding web pages.

Shortcuts at a glance

  • Shift-Cmd-D: Show Dashboard
  • Shift-Cmd-I: Invoice Vault
  • Shift-Cmd-M: Customer Management
  • Shift-Cmd-U: Upgrade to Premium... (App Store build only)

Beyond the menu bar there are more: search, print, Quick Look, and delete inside the Invoice Vault, full keyboard navigation in the Cost Item Catalog, and Return/Escape in every sheet. The complete, printable list is on the keyboard shortcut cheat sheet.

One shortcut that intentionally does nothing: Cmd-, (Settings). TimeBill has no Settings window. All configuration lives in the Your Details sheet at the bottom of the sidebar, as shown in exploring the main window.
