Payment section or QR code missing from an invoice

Why the payment section or the SEPA scan-to-pay QR code does not appear on your invoice PDF, and the exact conditions that make them show.

Last updated

These are two different symptoms with two different causes: the whole payment section disappears when TimeBill has no bank details to print, while the QR code has three specific conditions that must all be met.

The entire payment section is missing

If you haven't entered any payment details at all, TimeBill hides the invoice's payment section automatically: the default templates reclaim that space for the items table. To bring it back:

  1. Click Your Details at the bottom of the projects sidebar.
  2. In the Payment Information section, choose your Account Type and fill in the matching fields. For SEPA (EU) that's Bank Name, Account Holder, IBAN, and BIC/SWIFT.
  3. Click Save and generate the invoice again.

If you use a custom template, also check the template itself: every section has a visibility toggle in the template editor, so the Payment section may simply be switched off. Open the editor via Edit Templates… in the Generate Invoice sheet (or Configure PDF Invoice Templates in Your Details), select your template, open the Payment tab, and make sure the section is visible. See Customizing invoice templates.

The payment section shows, but the QR code is missing

TimeBill prints an EPC "scan-to-pay" QR code (SEPA Credit Transfer) only when all three of these are true:

  1. The Account Type in Your DetailsPayment Information is SEPA (EU); other account types never get a QR code. The template editor states this too: "The QR code is only generated for SEPA (EU) bank details."
  2. The IBAN passes checksum validation. A mistyped IBAN silently fails this check, so compare it character by character with your bank statement.
  3. The invoice Currency (chosen in the Generate Invoice sheet) is EUR. Invoices in any other currency never carry a QR code, because SEPA credit transfers are euro payments.

The most common trap is the third one: if you ever picked a different currency, TimeBill remembers it as the default for future invoices. Re-open the Generate Invoice sheet, set Currency to EUR, and export again. More on this in Invoice languages and currency.

On custom templates, the QR code can additionally be switched off in the template editor's Payment tab. Check the Show QR Code option there.
